Every article of foreign origin entering the United States must be legibly marked with the English name of the country of origin unless an exception from marking is provided for in the law. Goods can be detained by Customs before release, if not properly marked; or if goods are released, required to be redelivered to Customs custody. Noncompliance with the regulations can result in severe penalties to the importer.
